The Honorable Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has explained that the unmatched competence of HiTech Construction Company, is a major factor as to why the company is in charge of the Lagos – Calabar Coastal Highway project currently ongoing. The minister made this statement in his interview with the Arise News TV channel on his ministry’s score card after two years in office.
The minister, while responding to the question asked as to the transparency of the bidding process for the Coastal Highway project, said; “when we were about to do this project, we looked at who had previously worked with President Tinubu, who tamed the Atlantic Ocean. We looked for the company who were able to turn the menace of flooding into grace, where we have a wonderland that could be compared to Dubai, the Eko Atlantic and what came to our mind was HiTech and we invited them under total restrictive procurement process for sections one and two. President Tinubu has no hand in the procurement process of Lagos – Calabar Coastal road.” He also mentioned that the company is not just a contracting firm but also a development partner in the country.
The minister also explained that about 1.068 trillion had been expended on the 47.47km Section 1 of the Coastal Carriage Way which will be ready by December 2025, and the second section is likely to cost about 1.33 trillion, while praising the President’s projects in the Works sector as being “overwhelmingly impressive”.
