As a proud member of the Labour Party, I am delighted to spotlight the transformative efforts of Hon. Thaddeus Atta, the Honorable Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency. Through his Hon. Thaddeus Atta Community Development Initiative (THACDI) – Smile Joor, Hon. Atta has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to uplifting the lives of his constituents, delivering impactful empowerment projects that resonate with the Labour Party’s ethos of social justice, equity, and community development.
Powering Communities with Infrastructure
One of the standout achievements of THACDI is the delivery of 500KVA transformers to the Addo/Badore and Sangotedo communities. This critical infrastructure has brought reliable electricity to these areas, enhancing the quality of life, supporting local businesses, and fostering economic activity. Additionally, the installation of borehole systems in Oko Ado, Ogumbo, and Ado Village has provided residents with access to clean, pipe-borne water, addressing a fundamental need and improving public health.
Hon. Atta’s vision for a safer and more comfortable Eti-Osa is further evidenced by the installation of streetlights across multiple areas, including Happyland, Oko Ado, Golden Pearl Estate, Olanipekun Street, Igbo Efon, Idado, Osapa, Igbokushu, Abraham Adesanya, and Ogombo gate. These streetlights not only enhance safety but also create an enabling environment for nighttime economic and social activities, reflecting a strategic approach to community development.
Empowering Through Education and Skills
Education is a cornerstone of empowerment, and Hon. Atta has made significant strides in this area. Through THACDI, he has sponsored free UTME (JAMB) registrations for hundreds of candidates in Eti-Osa for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. This initiative removes financial barriers for young people aspiring to higher education, aligning with the Labour Party’s commitment to equal opportunities.
Beyond local efforts, THACDI has secured life-changing international scholarships for deserving constituents to study in Ireland, India, and Japan, with full funding for tuition and living expenses. Additionally, a male constituent was sponsored to enroll in the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, showcasing Hon. Atta’s dedication to nurturing talent and opening global opportunities for the youth of Eti-Osa. These initiatives are not just symbolic gestures but strategic investments in the future of the constituency’s youthful population.
Humanitarian Outreach and Social Welfare
Hon. Atta’s compassion for the vulnerable is evident in THACDI’s humanitarian efforts. The annual Christmas Rice Distribution has become a hallmark of his tenure, with over 5,000 bags of rice, cash gifts, and other items distributed to residents of Eti-Osa L.G.A. This gesture, which has also extended to other local governments in Lagos, brings joy and relief to families during the festive season.
In collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), THACDI provided relief materials to displaced occupants in the Jakande Community, offering critical support to those in need. The initiative’s outreach to orphanages and health centers, including Sought After Orphanage Home, Olive Bloom Orphanage Home, Arrow of God Orphanage Home, Sathya Sai Orphanage Home, Heritage Homes Orphanage, Lion’s Village Orphanage Home, Living Fountain Home, and Samuel Adeniyi Aiyeyemi Health Centre, has delivered essential relief items and cash donations, putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.
Infrastructure and Community Development
Hon. Atta’s commitment to improving the physical environment of Eti-Osa is seen in projects like the clearing of drainage and canals in Osapa London, which mitigates flooding and enhances public health. The construction of blocks of classrooms at Eti-Osa Community High School further demonstrates his focus on creating conducive learning environments for students.
Additionally, THACDI’s provision of grains and financial empowerment programs has directly supported residents, fostering economic resilience. The Eti-Osa Women Leadership & Empowerment Programme, supported by THACDI, underscores Hon. Atta’s dedication to gender equality and empowering women to take leadership roles in their communities.
A Legacy of Impact and Promise
The Hon. Thaddeus Atta Community Development Initiative is more than a series of projects; it is a movement that embodies the Labour Party’s vision of transformative governance.
